PAR Tax and Grants

PAR (PARKS, ARTS, & RECREATION) TAX

Nephi City voters approved a 10-year Parks, Arts, and Recreation Tax or PAR Tax.  This tax is a 1/10th of 1% sales tax specifically for Parks, Recreation facilities, and arts programs.  This tax has been instrumental in helping to fund the Town Square Park with soccer fields, a playground area, lights, and scoreboards.  It has also helped to fund the Hive recreation center.  The Nephi City Council authorized 80% of the grant funds to be spent on recreation facilities, 10% toward parks, and 5% toward arts programs.  Since the city does not run an arts department, the 5% amounts are given out as a competitive grant each year.  The tax will be eligible to be reauthorized by voters in 2028.

ARTS GRANT

Nephi City will be accepting applications for grants dedicated to arts for the next grant cycle around July of each year.  Arts grants are funded through the City’s Parks, Arts, and Recreation (PAR) Tax passed by voters in November of 2018. Collection of this tax began in the City’s fiscal year beginning in July of 2019. Each fiscal year (ending June 30th) the collections will be totaled. The City Council has designated 5% of the PAR Tax revenue to be available for grants dedicated to local arts organizations.

All Arts Grant applications will need to include the following information:

• Describe your organization
• Describe the project
• Describe the amount you are requesting
• Describe in detail how the funds will be used and more

While you are preparing your project, please keep in mind that if funded, you will be requested to submit copies of advertising, program, reviews and other printed materials generated by your project.

Keep an eye out for the Arts Grant cycle.
